Overview

The Data Solutions Manager drives the end-to-end approach for our client engagements with moderate technical and organizational complexity. Team members in this function act as a bridge between our data solutions and analytics and engineering teams. They manage our data solutions engagements through internal cross-team collaboration and as an interpreter for external stakeholders. The Data Solutions Manager is responsible for setting the engagement goals, defining success, helping motivate teams, and are ultimately accountable for the outcome of a given engagement.

  • Strategic Vision: You are responsible for communicating the vision of our data solutions. This includes creating buy-in for the product vision both internally and with our clients.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: You are responsible for collaborating with other functional departments to ensure alignment with the goals of the data solutions engagement.
  • Engagement Delivery: You are responsible for translating our data solutions strategy into detailed requirements for other functional teams.

Responsibilities Breakdown

Client Tier Responsibility: Data Solutions Managers can expect to work with a few data engagements with moderate to high technical and organizational complexity with some expectation of guidance and support from your manager, as needed.

 

Strategic Vision

  • Acts as a translator from the client to our internal teams to build awareness and understanding and communicate a vision for what Brooklyn Data will be delivering
  • Gains a deep understanding of client needs, identify and fill data solutions gaps (e.g., defining the overall solution architecture as well as the specific needs that must be filled by data wrangling and visualization tools) and generate new ideas that grow market share, improve client experience and drive growth
  • Creates buy-in for internal vision of the data solution, as well as with clients and other key external stakeholders

 

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Works closely with technical management across analytics, analytics engineering, and data engineering, People Operations, and other functional areas (as needed) to deliver the engagement efficiently and effectively with optimal resources
  • Partners with their director on staffing and resourcing needs
  • Drives engagement delivery by working with internal operational teams, including account management, resource management, and project management
  • Leads sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives with team and/or stakeholder

 

Engagement Delivery

  • Independently evaluates engagement delivery plans to ensure that they are consistent with engagement strategy and that the message is effectively conveyed
  • Translates engagement strategy into detailed requirements and prototypes
  • Scopes and prioritizes activities based on business and client impact
  • Be the client’s first point of escalation to help triage demands, with support of their director

Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills (Hard Skills)

  • Tool requirements: Intermediate proficiency / familiarity with the core components of a modern data platform:
    • Data ingestion SaaS (e.g., Fivetran, Stitch, etc)
    • Massively parallel processing data warehouse (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
    • Data transformation tools (e.g., dbt, Matallion, SQLMesh)
    • Cloud-forward business intelligence platform (e.g., Tableau, Sigma, Looker).

And how all of the above pieces fit together to deliver value to the client, including the ability (which may include asking your functional peers for support) to weigh pros and cons, from a technical and business perspective. Data Solutions Managers should be able to deliver and articulate infrastructure recommendations that are aligned with a client’s business objective.

 

  • Agile Practitioner: You can identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use, including measuring and evaluating outcomes. You know how to help the team to decide the best approach. You can help teams to manage and visualize outcomes, prioritize work and work to agreed minimum viable product (MVP), print and scope.

Qualifications (Must Haves)

  • Experience leading complex and broad ranging data projects with minimal guidance
  • Strong project management skills, including experience implementing agile
  • Strong analytic, critical thinking, and creative capabilities
  • Strong knowledge of the modern data stack and its components, including how to configure it
  • Hands on experience as an analyst, analytics engineer, data engineer, or a similar field
  • Organized and process oriented
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent sitting at a desk performing work on a computer

Compensation Range: $125,000 - $145,000 annually.

 

Please note that compensation packages are finalized after the interview process is concluded. We use a competency-based approach to base pay, which means it is based on the competencies and skills demonstrated for this role.
