Overview

The IT Support Specialist works on the IT team to primarily manage Velir’s helpdesk and incoming requests. This individual will also be assisting with and managing internal IT initiatives. This role responds to helpdesk inquiries and facilitates timely resolution of employee’s technology requests and needs. Along with their IT colleagues, the IT Support Specialist supports the infrastructure which drives the production systems and powers many software development environments. The IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing expert knowledge on both Mac and PC workstations. This individual is friendly, service oriented, and able to manage internal projects to drive department initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provisioning, administration and upgrades of various operating systems including Windows, MacOS and Linux
  • Manage, provision and support accounts both on premise and Microsoft 365
  • Keep OS, databases, and software updates current and secured across all systems
  • After hours patch management of production systems
  • Daily monitor and upkeep tasks to ensure infrastructure and production systems are functioning properly
  • Maintain ongoing infrastructure documentation to ensure all systems and processes are documented completely
  • Assist in the technical onboarding of new employees
  • Provide customer service to end users companywide as well as external clients
  • Be well-informed of infrastructure equipment needs and upgrades
  • Provide technical support for company meeting and events
  • Participate in after-hours on call support in scheduled rotation
  • Provide helpdesk support as needed including Tier II support for production infrastructure and emergency problem escalation
  • Serve as point of contact when escalating IT issues to vendors for resolution

Skills & Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of server hardware and troubleshooting, root cause analysis of problems and how to mitigate them in the future
  • Advanced understanding of latest server OS, functions, and configuration options
  • Understanding of server hardware and virtualization operations
  • Understanding of Active Directory, Federation Services, and VMware vCenter.
  • General understanding of enterprise networking, wireless infrastructure, and network firewalls
  • Ability to communicate on both the technical and non-technical level
  • Ability to problem solve and arrive at solutions methodically
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and time effectively using project management tools
  • Strong service and communication skills
  • Written documentation of operational requirements of existing infrastructure and new project scope definitions

Experience and Education

  • BS in Computer Science, technical certification, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with managing and supporting Microsoft Azure cloud subscriptions or equivalent
  • Experience in Windows Server and MSSQL Server administration, and upgrade
  • Experience with configuring and managing Active Directory
  • Experience with VMware ESXi vSphere and vCenter operations and components
  • Experience with Storage Area Networks over iSCSI
  • Experience scripting in PowerShell or other scripting languages to automate repetitive work
  • Experience with detailed documentation and change control processes

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent sitting at a desk performing work on a computer
  • Lift, carry, push or pull supplies, equipment and/or materials. Periodically involves moving objects weighing more than 50 pounds
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching and reaching required when setting up workstations
